Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani emphasized the significance of combined cycle projects in power plants.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office indicated that Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani inaugurated the expansion of the Qayyarah Combined Cycle Power Plant on Wednesday. This expansion will add 375 megawatts, increasing the plant’s total capacity to 1,125 megawatts.

Al-Sudani highlighted the project’s role in enhancing energy generation in the national grid. He noted that the government’s strategy to use combined cycle power plants will yield various benefits, including increased production levels of consumed fuel and environmental consideration.

The project, located in the Qayyarah district, south of Nineveh Governorate, is deemed essential for supplying the national grid with electricity. It utilizes gases emitted from the simple cycle and comprises three combined cycle units with a capacity of 125 megawatts each. The simple cycle includes six gas units, each with a capacity of 125 megawatts.
