Al-Sudani to Dispatch Salaries to Kurdistan Region Amid Oil Agreement

Baghdad: A high-level source revealed that Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani has confirmed the dispatch of salaries to the Kurdistan Region today. During a cabinet meeting, Al-Sudani instructed the Ministers of Finance and Oil to present a report on the implementation of the recent agreement, and directed a delegation from the Ministry of Oil to visit the oil fields in the Kurdistan Region.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the source from within the cabinet meeting held yesterday stated that Al-Sudani assured that the salaries for employees and recipients in the Kurdistan Region would be delivered by Wednesday, with future salaries to be sent without any issues. He also emphasized the need for the Ministers of Oil and Finance to provide their reports within 15 days on the adherence to the agreement by both parties.

Furthermore, Al-Sudani requested the Minister of Oil to undertake a field visit to the oil fields in the Kurdistan Region, which have not been visited yet. The Oil Minister confirmed the Ministry’s readiness to resume oil exports from the Kurdistan Region and to manage the received quantities.

Al-Sudani highlighted the execution of Cabinet Resolution No. (550), issued during the extraordinary meeting on July 17, 2025, addressing the resolution of financial and administrative matters with the Kurdistan Regional Government. He commended the efforts leading to the issuance of the resolution.

The Prime Minister’s Office issued a statement in which Al-Sudani emphasized “the importance of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s commitment to its financial obligations as per the law and constitution, to enable the federal Ministry of Finance to continue meeting its financial commitments.”

The Iraqi Ministry of Finance announced it had started disbursing May 2025 salaries to Kurdistan Region employees, following the Kurdistan Region’s compliance in handing over its current oil production to the State Oil Marketing Organization (SOMO).

Under the agreement approved by the Iraqi Cabinet on July 17, the Kurdistan Region will deliver its entire oil production, estimated at 230,000 barrels per day, to SOMO, while retaining another 50,000 barrels for domestic use and petroleum products.

Previously, the Kurdistan Region sent non-oil revenues to Baghdad in April, totaling 50 billion dinars. The Kurdistan Region’s Ministry of Finance announced that its non-oil revenues for May, amounting to 120 billion dinars, have been deposited into the federal Ministry of Finance’s bank account.
