Al-Sudani: Transfer of ISIS Detainees from Syria to Iraq Aims to Enhance Security

Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani affirmed that the transfer of ISIS terrorist detainees from Syria to Iraq was carried out based on a sovereign Iraqi decision aimed at safeguarding national, regional, and international security.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from Al-Sudani’s media office noted that the Prime Minister met with the Ambassador of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to Iraq, Maher Salem Al-Tarawneh, on Tuesday. The meeting focused on enhancing bilateral relations between Iraq and Jordan, and strengthening trilateral cooperation with Egypt, considering its impact on regional stability.

The Prime Minister reiterated Iraq’s commitment to the security and stability of Syria, explaining that the transfer of ISIS detainees was part of Iraq’s security responsibilities. He urged concerned countries to collaborate and repatriate their nationals among the detainees.

Al-Sudani also condemned the Israeli government’s decisions to expand settlements in the West Bank and violations in Hebron and the Ibrahimi Mosque, particularly with Ramadan approaching, emphasizing these actions breach international law.

The Jordanian ambassador conveyed greetings from the King of Jordan and his government, highlighting Jordan’s desire to deepen bilateral relations with Iraq.
