Rabia: The head of the Border Ports Authority, Lieutenant General Omar Adnan Al-Waeli, has affirmed the strategic significance of the Rabia border crossing as a crucial trade artery between Iraq and Syria.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Waeli recently conducted an on-site visit to the Rabia border crossing located in Nineveh Governorate. His visit aimed to assess the current operational status and identify challenges hindering the seamless flow of goods and services.

The Border Ports Authority released a press statement detailing Al-Waeli's inspection of various sections at the crossing, including exchange and inspection areas, passport control, and scanners. The review also encompassed procedures related to the entry and exit of goods and passengers. Furthermore, a meeting was held with the crossing's management and representatives from operating departments to discuss the primary technical and logistical challenges affecting operations.

Al-Waeli underscored the urgency of addressing priority needs in collaboration with the Governor of Nineveh. His objective is to expedite the development of the crossing in line with the Prime Minister's directives, thereby enhancing trade and transit activities at Rabia. He stated that improvements at the crossing would significantly boost its capacity and elevate the quality of services available to traders and travelers.

Highlighting the crossing's role in regional commerce, Al-Waeli noted the importance of equipping the crossing with essential technical resources and personnel. He prioritized facilitating the passage of trucks carrying food supplies from the Ministry of Trade and activating transit routes from Turkey through Syria into Iraq. These initiatives aim to strengthen Rabia's position within the regional and international trade framework.
