Al-Zaidi Outlines Iraq’s Future with Focus on State Building and US Partnership

Baghdad: Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi confirmed on Sunday that the government is working to restrict weapons and has made progress in this matter, while noting that the government's priority is to build a state that Iraqis can be proud of.

According to Iraqi News Agency, the Prime Minister emphasized Iraq's pivotal moment of national reform in an article, a transformation eagerly anticipated since the fall of dictatorship in 2003. He highlighted the efforts made by Iraqis to rebuild institutions, combat terrorism, and strengthen national unity. Since assuming office in May, al-Zaidi has prioritized the creation of a state that resonates with pride for all Iraqis. A key aspect of his governance is ensuring that the state maintains a legitimate monopoly on force. In less than two months, his administration has made strides in disarming armed groups and integrating them into state structures, alongside fortifying the rule of law and enhancing essential services.

Al-Zaidi also committed to marking the end of the Coalition forces' mission on September 30 as the start of a new era of ambitious partnership with the United States. He is set to travel to Washington to solidify this partnership, aiming to shift the relationship from crisis management to opportunity creation, particularly in areas with measurable economic impact. In discussions with President Donald Trump, al-Zaidi plans to propose concrete strategies to realize this vision, focusing on investments from major American companies in Iraq's infrastructure, energy, industry, technology, and digital economy sectors.

The Prime Minister expressed that Iraq will play its part in implementing necessary reforms. His experience in business underscores the importance of global confidence, stability, and an attractive investment climate for economic progress. Regional stability remains crucial for Iraq's growth, given its rich resources, capable workforce, and significant domestic market. Al-Zaidi sees the U.S. as essential for fostering international peace and promoting trust and cooperation between Iraq and its neighbors, warning that conflicts hinder development and prosperity.

Iraq aims to be a partner in regional stability, with plans to advance the Strategic Framework Agreement and enhance cooperation in education, training, and technology transfer. Al-Zaidi also seeks to continue developing Iraq's security capabilities to safeguard the nation's achievements.

The Prime Minister conveyed to the United States a message of confidence, asserting Iraq's sovereignty and independence from regional conflicts, choosing instead a path of development and collaboration. He believes that great nations are built through deliberate, wise leadership that capitalizes on historical moments of hope. Al-Zaidi concluded by expressing his eagerness to build a prosperous future with American allies.
