America: A Powerful Storm Threatens Heavy Snow on the East Coast

America: Nearly 240 million people were under severe cold weather warnings and winter storm alerts, as a powerful weather system threatened to bring strong winds, flooding, and heavy snowfall to the US East Coast, including blizzard-like conditions resulting from what is known as a “bomb cyclone” in the Southeast, according to a meteorologist.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, temperatures plummeted as tens of thousands of homes and businesses remained without power due to a weekend wave of snow and ice that disrupted traffic, downed trees, and claimed the lives of more than 100 people.

On Saturday, West Virginia recorded a low of -27 degrees Fahrenheit (-33 degrees Celsius), according to the National Weather Service in College Park, Maryland.

The Agency said that portions of the southern Appalachian Mountains and the Carolinas and Georgia could see 6 to 10 inches (15 to 25 centimeters) of snow.

It added that the Carolinas could experience blizzard conditions due to a “bomb cyclone,” a term it uses
to describe a rapidly developing severe storm system off the Southeast coast, accompanied by strong winds.

It noted that whenever there are warnings of extreme cold or freezing temperatures, it is dangerous to be outdoors.
