Gaza City: Amnesty International has issued a stark warning, urging international actors, notably the European Union, to take decisive action to halt what it describes as a genocide being perpetrated by Israel against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. The organization has highlighted the dire situation resulting from both military aggression and policies that have left the region “completely devoid of food.”

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Agnese Callamard, Secretary General of Amnesty International, has called for immediate international pressure on Israel to permit the delivery of essential supplies, including food, water, and medicine, into Gaza. Furthermore, she emphasized the need for accountability for those responsible for acts of genocide and war crimes.

Callamard detailed the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, noting a severe deterioration since the imposition of a comprehensive blockade by Israel on March 2. This blockade has exacerbated the already critical shortage of basic necessitie
s, as Israel resumed its military operations last March, further straining the resources in the region.

In her statement, Callamard highlighted the severe scarcity of food, water, and medical supplies, echoing concerns from various humanitarian bodies like the World Food Organization and the World Health Organization. She underscored the gravity of the situation by repeatedly stating, “there is no more food in Gaza,” and described the conditions as “absolutely terrifying.” Callamard concluded by reiterating that the events unfolding in Gaza amount to “genocide in full view of everyone.”
