Baghdad: An Iraqi delegation met with officials in Kuwait on Thursday to discuss enhancing security and media cooperation, coordinating efforts regarding border security, and countering rumors.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, The Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces stated that, “in line with the directives of the Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces regarding adherence to the principles of good neighborliness with brotherly and friendly nations-particularly neighboring countries-and activating the foundations of cooperation with them across various fields; and in implementation of the directives from the Director of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief concerning the need to strengthen coordination and communication mechanisms between Iraqi security media and its counterparts in neighboring countries, the Undersecretary of the Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior, Major General Abdul-Wahab Al-Wohaib, received the Iraqi delegation at the Ministry of Interior headquarters in Kuwait.”
The delegation comprised Lieutenant General Saad Maan, Head of the Security Media Cell at the Office of the Commander-in-Chief; Sabah Al-Nu’man, Official Spokesperson for the Commander-in-Chief; Haider Al-Tamimi, Consul at the Iraqi Embassy in Kuwait; and Diaa Al-Amiri, the Embassy’s Charg© d’Affaires.
The statement added that “the Head of the Security Media Cell conveyed the greetings of the Director of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief, General Abdul-Amir Al-Shammari, to the Kuwaiti side and to the brothers in Kuwait,” emphasizing “the depth of the historical and fraternal relations uniting the two countries and the importance of enhancing joint cooperation and coordination between them.”
The statement explained that the Iraqi delegation held a meeting with relevant Kuwaiti officials-attended by the Head of the Border Security Sector, Major General Mujbil Fahad; the Director General of the Interior Ministry Undersecretary’s Office, Brigadier General Khalid Abdul Karim Al-Turaiji; and the Director of Public Relations and Security Media at the Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior, Brigadier General Nasser Eid Abdullah-to discuss issues of mutual interest. Key topics included cooperation and coordination on border security, strengthening mechanisms to monitor rumors and misleading news, and exchanging relevant information.
The statement continued: “During the meeting, an agreement was reached to activate direct, daily communication between the two sides-particularly regarding urgent information requiring immediate handling-and to enhance media monitoring, especially concerning hate speech and incitement that may occasionally arise.”
Both sides emphasized “the importance of projecting an accurate media image that reflects the deep, fraternal ties between Iraq and Kuwait, as well as strengthening information exchange and media coordination. This aims to facilitate a rapid response to any emergencies or misleading information that could influence public opinion, thereby bolstering the security and stability of both nations.”
The statement noted that “another meeting was held at the Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior headquarters, attended by the official spokesperson for the Kuwaiti Ministry of Defense, Colonel Staff Saud Abdulaziz, to discuss media and security matters of mutual interest.”
According to the statement, both sides underscored the importance of enhancing “mutual cooperation and media coordination, recommending the holding of periodic joint meetings to exchange views and information and to discuss various issues of mutual interest.
They also emphasized strengthening communication at all levels and exchanging social, cultural, sports, and artistic activities to help consolidate fraternal relations and strengthen the bonds of cooperation between the two countries
