Baghdad: The Antiquities and Heritage Authority has ramped up its efforts in surveying, documentation, and field monitoring across Baghdad, Dhi Qar, and Babylon, focusing on the preservation of archaeological sites and heritage buildings.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the staff of the General Authority for Antiquities and Heritage are actively engaged in safeguarding the historical and cultural value of these regions. In the Baghdad Governorate, the Heritage Department is diligently working on surveying, documenting, and archiving heritage buildings, notably including the shrines of the Four Deputies, the ambassadors of Imam al-Mahdi, located in the Rusafa district.

Dr. Muayyad Haitham Rasen, Director General of the Heritage Department, highlighted the necessity of adhering to scientific, technical, and legal standards during the field surveys. He emphasized completing scientific documentation and monitoring building conditions, which are crucial for their preservation and enhancing public awareness of their historical, cultural, and touristic significance.

In Dhi Qar, the Antiquities and Heritage Inspectorates of Al-Bathaa and Al-Rifai have conducted field visits to the Al-Duhaila archaeological site and several other locations in the Al-Rifai district. These visits aim to assess the sites’ conditions and prevent any potential encroachments.

Similarly, the Babylon Antiquities and Heritage Inspectorate has visited sites including Tell Mahizim, Tell Al-Araya, Tell Al-Sharihi, and Tell Al-Asilah. Their objective is to evaluate the current state of these sites and monitor any changes or unauthorized activities that might threaten their integrity.
