Aoun Warns Against Forceful Disarmament of Hezbollah, Citing Risk of Civil War

Beirut: Lebanese President Joseph Aoun confirmed that any attempt to disarm Hezbollah by force would lead to a civil war within the country.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar reported that official sources revealed that new warnings had been received from Western sources to Lebanese officials regarding the weapons issue.

The newspaper noted that President Aoun responded to these demands by emphasizing that “the Lebanese army is not in a position to carry out such a step, and that any move to disarm by force means entering a certain civil war.” The newspaper added that the Lebanese president made it clear to external mediators that “Hezbollah’s confirmation of its readiness to fight in defense of its weapons is not a political maneuver or a temporary tactic, but rather a serious position that everyone in Lebanon knows is irreversible,” indicating that “it is difficult for any official in power to make a decision that could lead the country to internal strife.”
