Istanbul: The Arab Foreign Ministers meeting in Istanbul, ahead of the 51st session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), scheduled for today, Saturday, condemned the Zionist aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran, considering it a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of a UN member state and a threat to regional peace and security.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the attendees stressed the need to stop this aggression and intensify regional and international efforts to reduce tensions, achieve a ceasefire and comprehensive calm, return to negotiations to reach an agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue, and support all efforts aimed at achieving calm.
The meeting also called on the international community, especially the Security Council, to shoulder its responsibilities in halting the Israeli aggression, as it constitutes a violation of international law and a threat to the security and stability of the region.
It emphasized, “The only solution to crises in the region is to adopt diplomacy and dialogue based on the rules of international law and the United Nations Charter.” It emphasized that the current crisis cannot be resolved by military means, and that comprehensive calm in the region cannot be achieved without addressing the roots of the conflict, most notably halting the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, allowing immediate, adequate, and sustainable access for humanitarian aid through relevant UN agencies, and halting illegal Israeli measures in the occupied West Bank.
It called for respect for the sovereignty of states in the region and condemning any violation of their airspace. He emphasized the need to refrain from targeting nuclear facilities subject to International Atomic Energy Agency safeguards, in compliance with relevant IAEA and Security Council resolutions, as targeting these facilities constitutes a grave violation of international law. He warned of the dangers of nuclear emissions and leaks in the region and the devastating humanitarian and environmental consequences they would entail.
It is worth noting that the extraordinary session of the Council of the Arab League at the ministerial level in Istanbul was held at the request of Iraq to discuss the repercussions of the Israeli aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran and its impact on the security and stability of the region.
