Arab Journalists Union Reaffirms Commitment to Palestinian Cause Amidst Ongoing Conflicts

Laayoune: The General Secretariat of the Arab Journalists Union, under the leadership of Union President Moayad al-Lami, convened in Laayoune to reiterate its unwavering stance on the pressing issues facing the Arab nation, with a particular focus on the Palestinian cause, which is currently under significant threat.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting highlighted the severe challenges faced by the Palestinian cause, emphasizing the deliberate targeting of journalists in conflict zones by Israeli forces. The Union condemned the ongoing war crimes, genocide, and ethnic cleansing perpetrated against Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen. These actions, supported by major powers, have resulted in substantial casualties and the destruction of infrastructure.

The Union’s statement detailed the Israeli occupation’s targeting of media personnel, with over 250 journalists killed in Gaza and more than 12 in Lebanon and Syria. The organization called on international professional bodies to investigate these crimes and to bring the perpetrators to justice through the International Criminal Court.

Furthermore, the Union announced the development of an Arab initiative to support Palestinian journalists in Gaza, including a leadership delegation’s visit to the region. This initiative aims to provide tangible support and solidarity with journalists and their families affected by the ongoing conflict.

The Union also urged international mediators to enforce a ceasefire and the lifting of the blockade on Gaza, advocating for the recognition of a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital. Additionally, the Union called for the resolution of internal conflicts in Arab nations, attributing these disputes to the broader Zionist project.

The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of Morocco’s territorial integrity concerning the Moroccan Sahara conflict, supporting the autonomy project as a resolution framework. The Union expressed gratitude to Moroccan officials and local authorities for their hospitality and support during the meeting.
