Arab League Condemns Israel’s Recognition of Somaliland Secession

Cairo: The final statement of the extraordinary meeting of permanent representatives at the Arab League on Somaliland was announced this evening. The statement reads: “The Arab League condemns in the strongest terms Israel’s recognition of the secession of ‘Somaliland’.”

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Arab League reaffirms its firm and clear position that the northwestern region of Somalia, ‘Somaliland’, is an integral part of the Republic of Somalia. The Arab League indicated that Israel’s illegal recognition of “Somaliland” is part of Israel’s attempts to destabilize international peace and security.

The Arab League affirmed its support for the security, stability, and unity of Somalia and its right to legitimate self-defense in accordance with international law. It considered the Israeli moves a dangerous attempt to reshape the geopolitical map in the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea off the coast of Somalia. It reiterated its categorical rejection of the use of Somali territory, or any part thereof, by external actors as a platform or launching pad for any hostile acts targeting other countries.

In conclusion, the Arab League called upon all states and international organizations to refrain from any official or semi-official dealings with the authorities of the “Somaliland” region outside the framework of Somali sovereignty.
