Baghdad: The Arab Parliament affirmed that the Palestinian issue is the fundamental cause of instability in the region and the world, and the most influential factor in regional and international security and peace.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Arab Parliament Speaker Mohammed Ahmed Al-Yamahi, while chairing the Arab Parliament’s Palestine Committee to follow up on developments in the Palestinian territories, stressed that attempts to circumvent or marginalize the Palestinian issue have only resulted in more violence and destruction.
Al-Yamahi said that the path to security and peace in the region begins with a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue, based on international legitimacy resolutions that guarantee the legitimate and inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them their right to establish an independent, sovereign state with Jerusalem as its capital.
The Palestine Committee welcomed the rapid positive changes in the positions of many countries around the world regarding Israel’s policies, which have recently manifested in serious steps to hold it accountable for its ongoing violations against the Palestinian people.
The Committee noted that foremost among these decisions were the decisions by Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Norway, and Canada to impose sanctions on a number of officials in the occupying entity, including Ben-Gvir and Smotrich, and the decisions to suspend arms exports to Israel. This was in addition to the official announcement by the French leadership of its intention to recognize the State of Palestine in the near future.
The Committee emphasized that these positions represent a qualitative shift in the international community’s commitment to respecting the principles of international law and humanitarian justice. They reflect a growing global awareness of the justice of the Palestinian cause and a rejection of the policies of repression, killing, and displacement practiced by the Israeli occupation against the defenseless Palestinian people.
The Speaker of the Arab Parliament affirmed his full support for the urgent appeal made by the Speaker of the Palestinian National Council, Rawhi Fattouh, in which he addressed a cry for help to the parliaments of the free world, calling for a stand of pride, dignity, and humanity, and the adoption of emergency humanitarian legislation aimed at providing relief to the Palestinian people and contributing to providing their basic and life-saving needs. He also called for the establishment of a special international fund under the supervision of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
The Speaker of the Arab Parliament pointed out that this painful cry is not merely a plea, but rather a sincere expression of the collective tragedy experienced by the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, amid a systematic war of extermination and severe deprivation of food, water, and medicine. He called on the parliaments of the world to respond immediately and work to implement it promptly and urgently.
