Arab Summit Success and French President’s Visit Highlight Baghdad’s Strategic Importance

Baghdad: Today’s newspapers in Baghdad spotlight the success of the Arab Summit and the visit of French President Emmanuel Macron, amidst other significant issues.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, these events signal Baghdad’s pivotal role in regional politics and its potential for economic collaboration.

Al Sabah newspaper, published by the Iraqi Media Network, detailed the anticipation surrounding the Arab Summit, calling it a historic event for Baghdad. The paper emphasized the unprecedented government efforts and Arab support aimed at making the summit a platform for dialogue to address regional challenges. The newspaper expressed confidence that this event would transform perceptions of Baghdad, showcasing it as a secure and prosperous city emerging from past adversities.

Addressing French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit, Al Zaman newspaper reported on the preparations by joint committees from Iraq and France. The discussions are expected to focus on security, military cooperation, and pote
ntial new arms deals. Economic and investment cooperation will also be prioritized, with an emphasis on involving French companies in energy and infrastructure projects within Iraq. Furthermore, Macron’s visit is seen as a testament to Iraq’s role in regional stability and its international diplomatic standing.

Macron’s participation in the Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership was also highlighted. This conference, postponed to 2023 due to geopolitical tensions, will include leaders from Iraq’s neighboring countries, further underscoring Iraq’s significant regional role.

In economic news, Al Zawraa newspaper, affiliated with the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, reported on the recent decline in the exchange rate of the US dollar against the Iraqi dinar. Economic expert Nabil Jabbar Al Tamimi attributed this fluctuation to market dynamics rather than political factors. He pointed out the recession in Iraq’s car and real estate markets as a primary reason for the reduced demand for dollars, noting t
he emerging popularity of electric cars and transactions in dinars.

Al Tamimi dismissed the impact of external factors such as US customs tariffs or Iran-US tensions on the exchange rate. He clarified that despite market restrictions, the expected rise in dollar demand and price did not materialize, indicating a unique economic environment in Iraq.

These developments reflect Iraq’s evolving political and economic landscape, highlighting its strategic importance in the region and its potential for growth and stability.
