Tehran: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi affirmed on Sunday that Tehran is committed to diplomacy and is ready to try indirect negotiations with the United States. Araghchi said in statements reported by the Iranian Fars News Agency that Iran's response to US President Donald Trump's message was consistent with the content and tone of his message, while preserving the opportunity to use diplomacy. According to National Iraqi News Agency, Araqchi pointed out that "in principle, direct negotiations with a party that constantly threatens the use of force in violation of the UN Charter and whose various officials express contradictory positions would be meaningless. However, we remain committed to diplomacy and are prepared to try the path of indirect negotiations." He added, "We are ready to continue dialogue on our nuclear program and lift sanctions in exchange for lifting the oppressive sanctions against Iran." The Iranian Foreign Minister continued, "While committed to the path of diplomacy and dialo gue to resolve misunderstandings and disputes, the Islamic Republic of Iran will remain prepared for all possible or potential events. Just as it is serious about diplomacy and negotiation, it will also be decisive and serious in defending its interests and national sovereignty." Araghchi added that "negotiations must be conducted on an equal footing and without pressure," stressing that direct negotiations with the United States are unacceptable, but that indirect talks may be held when necessary. He indicated that Iran would respond to any threat in kind, emphasizing that his country was proceeding according to a clear logic and specific objectives.
