Madrid: Atletico Madrid announced today the signing of Argentine defender Cristian Romero from Tottenham Hotspur on a contract until June 2031, bolstering their first-team squad.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the club stated in a press release: “Romero has signed a contract until June 30, 2031, bringing an end to his five-year spell with Tottenham.” Romero, 28, a member of Argentina’s 2022 FIFA World Cup-winning squad, is Atletico Madrid’s fourth signing of the current summer transfer window, following Spaniard Alejandro Grimaldo, South Korean Lee Kang-in, and Dane Morten Hjulmand. The Argentine international was part of the national team that lost the 2026 World Cup final to Spain last month.
Romero made 156 appearances for Tottenham since joining the club, before bidding farewell to the fans on Friday, ending his five-season stint with the London club.
