Baghdad: The Baghdad Environment Directorate, operating under the Ministry of Environment, has announced the closure of an illegal site dedicated to collecting and selling scrap metal in the Abu Ghraib district. This decisive action was taken following a joint inspection campaign conducted in collaboration with the National Security Service/Economic Security Directorate, the Karkh Environmental Police, and the Federal Police forces tasked with maintaining security in the region.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Sadiq al-Moussawi, Director of the Baghdad Environment Directorate, revealed that the campaign was conducted under the oversight of a committee established by Diwani Order No. (241285), led by the Baghdad Operations Command. The initiative targeted various industrial activities within the district to ensure their compliance with established environmental regulations and requirements.

Inspection teams also evaluated a ready-mix concrete plant, known as a “central mixing plant,” to verify its compliance with environmental standards. Al-Moussawi emphasized the ongoing nature of these inspection campaigns and the enforcement of legal measures against non-compliant activities.
