Baghdad: Baghdad Governor Abdul Muttalib Al-Alawi announced today, Monday, taking effective and joint measures to prevent water and air pollution in the capital in coordination with the relevant authorities.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement by the Government Media and Communications Department noted that Baghdad Governor Abdul Muttalib Al-Alawi chaired the third meeting of the Higher Committee for Improving and Developing the Environment. The meeting included representatives from the Ministries of Environment, Health, Water Resources, Higher Education, Industry, and the Baghdad Municipality.

The statement highlighted that the meeting focused on discussing water and air pollution rates, along with topics such as afforestation, clearing green spaces, and managing medical incinerators. Necessary recommendations were made regarding these environmental issues.

Al-Alawi emphasized the agreement to convene a meeting within two weeks to specifically address the problem of water pollution in the Tigris and Diyala Rivers. The objective is to make appropriate recommendations to the competent authorities, as part of the ongoing efforts to protect and improve the environment in Baghdad.
