Baghdad: The Baghdad Operations Command has announced the closure of several iron smelters in the Rusafa area due to non-compliance with environmental and health regulations.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the closures are in line with directives from the Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, as part of an ongoing effort by the Diwani Order Committee (241285) to mitigate environmental pollution. This initiative targets emissions and odors linked to production processes, aiming to ensure all factories, plants, and metal smelters adhere to licensing requirements.
In a coordinated effort with the Ministry of Environment and municipal departments, the operations led to the shutdown of iron smelters in the Al-Ubaidi area on the Rusafa side. These facilities were found to be operating without proper approvals, posing risks to the health and safety of citizens.
