Baghdad Operations Command Shuts Down Illegal Metal Smelting Sites Violating Health Regulations

Baghdad: Baghdad Operations Command forces closed a number of metal smelting and unregulated burning sites that violated environmental and health regulations.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Command stated in a statement that, in implementation of the directives of the Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, the committee established by Diwani Order (241285) continued to monitor and inspect metal smelting sites and close unregulated and illegal sites that violate environmental regulations and conditions. This aims to reduce pollution resulting from the emission of gases and odors associated with production processes.

The committee, in cooperation with detachments from the National Security Service, the Ministry of Environment, and municipal departments, was able to close a number of these sites due to the harm they cause to the health and safety of citizens. These sites were located in the areas of Kasra and Atash, Al-Kawam/Al-Fahama, and Al-Mahmoudiya on both the Karkh and Rusafa sides of the city.
