Baghdad: The Baghdad Operations Command has issued an urgent call for citizens to adhere strictly to the Civil Defense Directorate’s instructions in an effort to prevent fires, especially as temperatures soar during the summer months. This directive emphasizes a comprehensive list of preventive measures aimed at mitigating fire risks across the city.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Baghdad Operations Command reiterated previous directives to combat the increased likelihood of fires during extreme heat. Citizens are advised to remove potentially hazardous items from their vehicles, such as flammable materials, lighters, and soft drink bottles. Additionally, the public is encouraged to slightly open car windows for ventilation, avoid fully filling fuel tanks, and refuel vehicles during cooler hours of the day, either in the morning or evening.

The directive also includes recommendations to limit vehicle use during peak heat hours and to prevent over-inflation of car tires, particularly when traveling. Furthermore, joint committees have been activated to inspect and ensure compliance with safety and security procedures in commercial and public spaces, including malls, hospitals, and gas stations. These inspections are crucial for confirming the availability of essential fire-fighting equipment.

Citizens are also urged to avoid placing cooking gas cylinders in direct sunlight, reduce electrical loads by operating air conditioners only in occupied areas, and ensure the use of high-quality protective devices. The command advises against using low-quality electrical outlets and stresses the importance of maintaining distinct separation between the national grid and generator power to prevent electrical mishaps.

Moreover, the public is cautioned not to overload electrical wiring and to avoid connecting multiple wires to a single source. In the event of any emergency, citizens are reminded to immediately contact the emergency services through the free 911 line or other operational command numbers.
