Barzani Hopes Upcoming Elections Will Foster Understanding Among Parties to Address Iraq’s Crises

Duhok: Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) leader Masoud Barzani expressed his hope that the upcoming elections would lead to an understanding among sincere parties “to save Iraq from its crises.” In a speech delivered today during a meeting with a number of religious figures in Duhok Governorate, Barzani emphasized the importance of elections as a democratic process where people decide their fate.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Barzani stated, “Elections are a very important process in which the people decide their fate, and we want our people to be free in their choice and to exercise their democratic right with complete freedom.” He clarified that the KDP does not view elections merely as a means to obtain positions. Instead, the party seeks to demonstrate its strength and popular support in defending the rights of the people of Kurdistan and Iraq.

Barzani further reflected on the political developments since 2003, highlighting efforts to build a new Iraq and draft a permanent constitution aimed at addressing critical issues. He lamented that the proper implementation of the constitution could have helped Iraq overcome most of its crises, but unfortunately, this did not happen.
