Basra: An awareness seminar entitled 'Environmental Security. Towards a Safe Environment and a Sustainable Society' was organized by the Basra Agriculture Directorate, in cooperation with the National Security Advisory, the Basra Governorate Committee for Combating Violent Extremism, and the Department of Environmental Protection and Improvement for the Southern Region, as part of a joint cultural program.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Basra Agriculture Directorate stated in a press release that the seminar aimed to raise awareness of the concept of environmental security, highlight the importance of preserving natural resources, and reduce practices that negatively impact the environment. It also aimed to promote a culture of social responsibility towards environmental protection and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

For his part, the Director of Basra Agriculture, Engineer Hadi Hussein Qasim, emphasized during the seminar the importance of concerted efforts among government institutions to solidify the concepts of environmental security. He pointed out that preserving the environment is a fundamental pillar in supporting the agricultural sector and ensuring the sustainability of its resources, and called for the continuation of awareness programs that contribute to raising the level of environmental awareness among various segments of society.

The seminar was attended by a number of employees from the Directorate of Agriculture and representatives of participating entities. Discussions, dialogues, and an exchange of views took place regarding the most prominent environmental challenges and ways to address them through joint cooperation and the dissemination of environmental awareness.
