Basra: The City General Hospital in northern Basra Governorate achieved a medical milestone by performing its first neurosurgical procedure: a successful craniotomy on a four-year-old girl.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Director General of Basra Health Department, Abbas Khalaf Al-Tamimi, stated that the surgery was performed in the hospital's newly established neurosurgery department. He confirmed that the girl is in good health following the successful procedure, thanks to the efforts of the medical, nursing, anesthesia, and support staff.

He added that the opening of the department represents a significant improvement in the level of specialized healthcare services provided in the northern part of the governorate. It will provide advanced medical care to residents of the districts of Al-Madina, Al-Qurna, Al-Sadiq, and Al-Deir, reducing the need to transfer patients to hospitals in Basra city center for such specialized surgeries.

He noted that this step is part of Basra Health Department's efforts to expand specialized services and enhance the capabilities of health institutions to meet the needs of citizens.
