Basra: The head of the Youth, Sports, and Civil Society Organizations Committee in Basra Council, Jaafar Al-Hajjaj, engaged in discussions with European Union Commission representatives regarding the water crisis in the governorate. This meeting was coordinated with Terre des Hommes Italia.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the media office stated that during the meeting, Al-Hajjaj stressed the importance of enhancing the role of civil society organizations in providing immediate solutions to alleviate the suffering of citizens. He expressed his full support for international and local organizations, emphasizing his commitment to overcoming obstacles to launch humanitarian and service projects aimed at addressing the water crisis.
It is important to note that Basra Governorate is experiencing severe water scarcity, pollution, and violations of its water quota. This situation has led to widespread protests throughout the governorate, as citizens demand solutions to a problem that now poses a threat of an environmental disaster.
