Basra: The Basra local government discussed a project to construct a dam in the Shatt al-Arab waterway to halt the intrusion of saltwater.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from the governorate said: "A meeting was held today, chaired by Deputy Governor Maher Ibrahim al-Amiri, with the committee tasked with determining the consultancy requirements for constructing the dam in the Shatt al-Arab waterway within the Sindbad area, with the aim of stopping the saltwater intrusion."

It added: "The meeting was attended by the directors of the Water Department and the Water Resources Department, as well as a number of specialists from relevant departments."
