Basra: Basra Governor Asaad Al-Eidani has announced the allocation of 100 contracts specifically designated for the role of archaeological guards at the Basra Antiquities and Heritage Inspectorate. This decision comes as part of the broader distribution of 13,000 positions available in the region.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Basra Antiquities Inspector Mustafa Al-Husseini highlighted in a press statement the significance of these contracts in bolstering the protection of archaeological sites. With Basra housing 133 sites of historical importance, the need for increased monitoring and protection is critical to curbing encroachments and violations.

Al-Husseini emphasized that this initiative is integral to the ongoing efforts of the Basra Antiquities and Heritage Inspectorate to enhance the safeguarding of the governorate’s archaeological sites. The move is also aimed at supporting and expanding the workforce dedicated to heritage maintenance, thereby preserving the cultural and historical identity of the region.
