Basra: The Governor of Basra, Engineer Asaad Al-Eidani, has stated that the responsibility for the case involving Iraqi fishermen lies with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, distancing the local government from commenting on the matter.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Eidani clarified in a press release that his responsibilities as part of the local government were confined to accompanying the delegation and ensuring the safe return of the fishermen to Basra. The pressing issue, which involves the detention of five fishermen by Kuwaiti authorities leading to the unfortunate death of one and the injury of another, remains under the purview of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Activists and bloggers have expressed concern, urging the Basra government to take action regarding the incident. They have highlighted the need for a resolution to ongoing violations against fishermen operating in Iraqi territorial waters, describing these actions as a clear infringement on national sovereignty.
