Basra: The Permanent Committee for Voluntary Work in the Basra Governorate Office has been honored for leading the governorates in volunteer work for two consecutive years.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers/Higher Central Committee for Volunteer Work decided to honor the Permanent Committee for its achievements. The committee secured first place among all Iraqi governorates for 2024 and 2025, acknowledging its successes in the field of volunteer work.
The head of the committee, Mahmoud Hamad Abbas, stated that the committee is preparing to participate in the Second National Conference on Volunteer Work, organized by the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers in Baghdad on July 20th. During the event, Basra Governorate will be recognized for its leadership in volunteer work for the years 2024 and 2025.
Abbas explained that the honor resulted from the various activities and events implemented by the governorate in volunteer work, notably the awareness and educational campaigns that gained attention and appreciation from relevant authorities.
He added that the committee, in collaboration with volunteer teams, continues to provide services to the Husseini processions along Baghdad Street in central Basra and extending to the northern areas of the governorate. These services include distributing meals, water bottles, and ice, in coordination with the Husseini Processions Authority, as well as offering shelter to pilgrims visiting Imam Hussein and cleaning the roads.
