Basra: The Human Rights Office in Basra has called for an investigation into recent attacks on journalists in the region and urged for the punishment of those responsible.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Basra has appealed to executive institutions to look into the assaults on journalists in the province, including correspondents from Al-Ahd and Al-Rabia channels. The office emphasized the need for legal actions against the perpetrators of these attacks.

In a statement issued Monday, the Basra office reported ongoing monitoring and follow-up on violations against journalists. Additionally, it noted the persistent filing of complaints by executive institutions against several human rights defenders. The office reaffirmed its steadfast support for the judicial authorities, which have consistently delivered rulings aimed at promoting and protecting human rights.

The office further urged all executive bodies to cease lawsuits against human rights defenders who are using legal means to express their opinions. It emphasized the importance of recognizing these defenders as partners in the process of state-building.
