Basra Integrity Commission Uncovers Corruption Suspicions in 31 Billion Dinar “Masarak” Contract

Basra: The integrity commission of the Basra Provincial Council has disclosed allegations of corruption involving the "Masarak" project contract, valued at 31 billion dinars. The project, which is designed for electronic toll collection at the main reception area of the General Company for Iraqi Ports, was awarded under a joint operation agreement.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Baydaa al-Nahi, the head of the Integrity Committee in the Basra Provincial Council, highlighted in a press statement that the project consists of a single room for collecting container fees, yet it comes with an estimated cost of approximately 31 billion dinars. Al-Nahi expressed concern over the hefty price tag associated with the project.

Furthermore, al-Nahi pointed out that the contract stipulates that 80% of the revenue generated from the project would go to the investor, while only 20% would be allocated to the ports. She confirmed that there are violations within the contract's terms, leading to the matter being referred to the Iraqi judiciary for further legal proceedings.
