Basra: The Commander of Basra Operations, Lieutenant General Saad Mohsen, announced this evening the success of the security plan for the Arbaeen pilgrimage of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him).

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Mohsen, speaking at a press conference, stated that the Operations Command, together with its affiliated sectors and the Popular Mobilization Forces, implemented a comprehensive security plan consisting of three main phases. The first phase included securing ten main routes for pilgrims, covering 16,350 Husseini processions. The second phase focused on securing the border crossings of Shalamcheh and Safwan, as well as Al-Mahfel railway station, Saad Square parking garage, and Shatt al-Arab seaport.

He highlighted that the number of arrivals through the Shalamcheh border crossing reached about 1.6 million pilgrims, while the Safwan crossing recorded 99,700 pilgrims, all of whom were provided with the necessary services.

Aqeel Al-Furaiji, head of the Provincial Security Committee, confirmed that the security plan was carried out under the direct supervision of the Operations Commander, starting from the first day of Muharram until the Arbaeen pilgrimage, noting that the process ran smoothly and in an orderly manner.

Al-Furaiji further mentioned that the efforts extended beyond security measures to include electricity, municipalities, and other supporting departments to provide services for the processions. Additionally, the participation of Karbala municipalities with a fleet of vehicles facilitated the transportation of pilgrims to and from Basra.
