Basra: The Deputy Governor confirms from China: A research platform for irrigation technologies in Basra will enhance water efficiency and reduce waste. Basra Deputy Governor Hassan Thahir al-Najjar affirmed that the visit of Arab delegations to the Central Irrigation Experiment Station in China’s Zhejiang Province, a specialized research platform for agricultural irrigation technologies, was highly fruitful, noting that they were briefed on the latest technologies used there.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Najjar told the agency on Tuesday that the visit coincided with the nearing conclusion of a training course on water-saving irrigation technologies for Arab countries, held in China, and was part of the program prepared for the participating Arab delegations. He pointed out that the Iraqi delegation included representatives from the Basra local government and the Kurdistan Regional Government.

He added that the delegations received a detailed explanation of the station’s main activities, which focus on conducting various irrigation experiments and developing water-saving technologies suitable for local conditions, as well as promoting highly efficient irrigation methods, including drip and sprinkler irrigation.

Al-Najjar explained that establishing a similar research platform in Basra would contribute to increasing the efficiency of irrigation water use and reducing waste, in addition to providing scientific support for water management in various fields, especially agriculture.
