Basra Police: Car Theft Gang Apprehended in Abu al-Khasib and Perpetrators of Jewelry Theft in Najaf Arrested


Basra: Basra police have dismantled a carjacking gang in Abu al-Khasib and arrested the perpetrators of a jewelry theft in Najaf Governorate.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Basra Governorate Police Command announced in a press release that a security task force was established to tackle the series of carjacking incidents in the Abu al-Khasib district, located south of Basra. This operation was conducted by the Basra Anti-Crime Department in collaboration with the Falcons Cell, and overseen by Basra Governorate Police Chief, Major General Latif Abdul-Ridha al-Saad, resulting in the arrest of the suspects involved.



The police statement further detailed that the suspects were detained under Article 442 of the Penal Code. They have confessed to executing three carjackings in various locations within the Abu al-Khasib district. Additionally, they admitted to robbing a jewelry store in the Najaf Governorate. Legal proceedings have been initiated against the suspects as a preliminary step toward their referral to the judiciary.
