Basra: Basra Emergency and Patrol Police have initiated a comprehensive field campaign targeting the issue of begging across the city’s streets and major intersections. This initiative has led to the detention of several individuals engaged in begging, who have since been referred to the appropriate authorities for further legal proceedings.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the police command highlighted in a statement that this campaign is a part of efforts to tackle negative phenomena that adversely affect society. The statement emphasized that begging not only mars the city’s civilized image but also serves as a fa§ade for some individuals to engage in illicit activities. Furthermore, it poses health, psychological, and social risks to minors and manipulates the needs of citizens in unlawful ways.

The police command assured that these operations will persist in an effort to mitigate the issue. They also urged citizens to support the security services by discouraging beggars and promptly reporting any suspicious activities by contacting the emergency hotline at (911).
