Basra: Basra police are investigating the death of a person whose family claims he was beaten by a police patrol.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Basra police have opened an investigation into the death of a man whose family claims he was beaten by a police patrol. The Basra Police Command stated in a press release: “On August 25, 2026, a patrol stopped a motorcycle carrying two people for failing to produce the required official documents. They were released shortly afterward without detention after their relatives provided the necessary paperwork for the motorcycle.”
The Command added that it received news today of the death of one of the two men, and his family claims that the death resulted from a beating by the patrol that stopped them. The Command confirmed that upon receiving the claim, it immediately launched a thorough investigation and transferred the deceased’s body to the Forensic Medicine Department to determine the exact cause of death and clarify the circumstances.
