Baghdad: The Baghdad Operations Command announced on Friday the successful arrest of several networks and gangs involved in drug trafficking and distribution, as well as prostitution and smuggling.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the command stated in a press release that the joint security campaigns were conducted in coordination with the Directorate of Residency and Nationality Affairs, with the support of Ministry of Interior units. The operations included inspections of hotels, apartments, and neighborhoods with a significant foreign presence, along with verification of their legal documents. This resulted in the arrest of several organized gangs involved in drug trafficking, prostitution, and smuggling.

The statement added that illegal channels for smuggling money and prohibited goods, operated by individuals or groups residing unlawfully, were also shut down.

Baghdad Operations Command emphasized that these measures aim to prevent the exploitation of illegal residency for activities that threaten public security and social stability, and to reinforce the stability of the capital.
