Basra: Border crossings have generated customs revenues exceeding eleven billion dinars in just two days at the Welcome Square, effectively ending the congestion crisis at Basra ports. The Border Crossings Authority announced the resolution of the severe congestion issue that had plagued thousands of trucks at the Grand Welcome Square in Basra, resulting in remarkable customs revenue collection.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, this achievement followed a field visit spearheaded by the Authority Chairman, Lieutenant General Dr. Omar Al-Waeli, alongside Dr. Muhammad Ismat Ibrahim Al-Bayati, the Chairman of the Diwani Order Committee responsible for evaluating the Skoda system, and representatives from the Customs Authority. The visit led to the implementation of urgent legal and regulatory solutions, which successfully cleared the backlog of trucks and generated unprecedented revenue.
The measures taken during this operation yielded record financial revenues of JD 11,211,359,000 within the first two working days of September alone, by processing a total of 4,391 trucks. This swift action not only resolved the congestion but also significantly eased the challenges faced by truck drivers and importers whose goods had been delayed for several days.
The Authority emphasized its commitment to executing government directives responsibly through precise, electronic, and transparent oversight procedures. These efforts aim to ensure a smooth flow of goods, combat corruption, and deliver optimal services to stakeholders in the commercial sector, aligning with the government’s program and ministerial strategy.
