Zurbatiya: The Border Ports Authority announced on Tuesday the thwarting of an attempt to embezzle more than 77 million Iraqi dinars of public funds at the Zurbatiya border crossing.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, authority spokesman Alaa al-Din al-Qaisi stated in a press release that “the Zurbatiya border crossing directorate, acting on the approval of the Badra Investigation Court judge, seized two vehicles at a search and inspection point outside the customs area. The vehicles were declared to be carrying garbage bags, but upon inspection, they were found to contain shopping bags subject to local product protection measures, resulting in a loss of more than 77 million Iraqi dinars of public funds.”

He added, “A formal seizure report was prepared, and the vehicles and seized materials were transferred to the Zurbatiya Customs Police Station to be presented before the Badra Investigation Court judge for the necessary legal action.”
