Border Guard Commander Assures Syrian Counterpart of Concerted Efforts to Control Common Border

Najaf: The Al-Qaim Border Area The commander of the border forces, Lieutenant General Mohamed Abdel Wahab Sukkar, on Monday, stressed to his Syrian counterpart, Brigadier General Hassan Abdel Ghani, the importance of concerted efforts to control the common border.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry of Interior stated that "The Al-Qaim border area witnessed the holding of the first border meeting between the Republic of Iraq and the Syrian Arab Republic today." This meeting was attended by the commander of the Iraqi border forces, Lieutenant General Mohamed Abdel Wahab Sukkar, the commander of the border guards of the Syrian Arab Republic, Brigadier General Hassan Abdel Ghani, and his accompanying delegation, along with a number of concerned commanders and officers from both sides.

During the meeting, discussions focused on mechanisms to enhance cooperation and joint coordination between the border forces of the two countries. They also explored ways to improve the exchange of information to address security challenges that may impact the security and stability of the common border areas.

The statement emphasized that the commander of the border forces highlighted "the importance of the concerted efforts of the two countries to control the common border," noting that "this conference laid the foundations for a set of understandings to enhance security and stability along the border strip between the two countries."

The Commander of the Syrian Arab Republic's Border Guard expressed optimism about the meeting's outcome, stating that it resulted in positive results that will contribute to increasing the level of border control. He also noted that the meeting would open quick and flexible communication channels between field commanders on both sides, thereby enhancing joint coordination and supporting the security of the two brotherly countries.
