Baghdad: The Border Crossings Authority announced on Sunday a record increase in customs revenues from 2023 to 2025, following the implementation of strict electronic and regulatory measures introduced by the government under the direct supervision of the Authority’s staff.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Authority stated that revenues have grown to their highest levels since 2003 after the introduction of a package of reforms, customs controls, and preventive electronic measures. Revenues exceeded 2.1 trillion dinars during the first ten months of 2025, with projections indicating they may reach between 2.5 and 2.7 trillion dinars by the end of the year.
The statement attributed this rise to the adoption of electronic auditing systems, remote image analysis of scanners, and enhanced monitoring of customs collection processes, which have significantly reduced financial leakage and ensured the collection of actual dues.
The Authority added that it has been closely monitoring the financial trans
actions of trading companies, in coordination with judicial and government bodies. These efforts resulted in the recovery of overdue tax revenues and the issuance of arrest warrants against hundreds of companies and their authorized directors who failed to settle their obligations.
The Authority concluded that this improvement in customs and tax revenues represents a strategic achievement that strengthens Iraq’s non-oil resources and supports its economic reform program. It also noted that the Prime Minister has directed the completion of the comprehensive customs automation project by 2026 to further boost revenue levels in the coming years.
