Umm qasr: The Border Ports Authority has successfully seized and recovered over one billion dinars in revenue from two companies importing frozen red meat, safeguarding public finances at the Umm Qasr port.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Authority revealed that its detachments recently intercepted and referred 12 refrigerated trucks from two companies that had been involved in manipulating customs duties on frozen red meat at the northern Umm Qasr port. This manipulation resulted in a significant loss of public funds.
The statement detailed that the port directorate, supported by a formal seizure report, forwarded the case to the relevant police station. Following this, the matter was presented to the investigating judge of the Umm Qasr court, who initiated the necessary legal actions. These actions culminated in the recovery of state funds previously misappropriated by the companies. A fine amounting to 1,282,986,000 Iraqi dinars was collected, with official receipts from the Southern Customs Directorate dated August 10, 2026, confirming the recovery.
The authority reiterated its commitment to round-the-clock operations in collaboration with departments at the ports of entry to enhance revenue collection, oversee the movement of goods and travelers, and conduct transaction audits. These efforts aim to ensure smooth operations and prevent smuggling or fee manipulation, working closely with judicial authorities.
