New delhi: BRICS leaders have reaffirmed their opposition to the displacement of Palestinians and called for a sustained ceasefire in Gaza during the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, India. The leaders issued a final statement emphasizing the need for adherence to UN Security Council resolutions concerning the Gaza Strip, advocating for uninterrupted humanitarian aid, and expressing concern over ongoing violence despite the 2015 ceasefire agreement.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the BRICS leaders expressed their opposition to any policies aimed at forcibly displacing Palestinians from the Gaza Strip. They voiced concerns over arrangements that infringe on Palestinian rights or prolong the occupation and supported Palestine’s bid for full UN membership.

The statement highlighted opposition to Israeli settlers seizing land in the West Bank and any forced displacement of Palestinians. It called for respecting the sanctity of religious sites in Jerusalem and condemned actions violating international law.

The leaders also addressed the situation in Lebanon, welcoming the ceasefire and urging adherence to UN Resolution 1701 while calling on Israel to withdraw from Lebanese territories.

BRICS, originally formed in 2009 as BRIC, expanded to include South Africa in 2011, and further grew to 11 members with new additions by 2025. It now represents half the global population and 40% of economic output.
