Brussels: The parties participating in the ninth donor conference for Syria pledged £5.8 billion ($6.3 billion) to the Syrian population and refugee-hosting countries.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Dubravka Zojka, the European Commissioner for the Mediterranean, announced during the closing session of the conference held in the Belgian capital, Brussels, that the total pledges made by all participants amounted to £5.8 billion, including £4.2 billion in grants and £1.6 billion in soft loans.
Zojka stated that the European Union and its member states are responsible for providing 80% of the total grants. The European Union organized the ninth donor conference for Syria to address the needs for a successful transition process.
