Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani chaired the fifth regular session of the Cabinet for 2026, where the general situation of the country and several agenda topics were discussed, leading to necessary decisions. The Cabinet emphasized the importance of monitoring ministries and state institutions to reduce expenditures and maximize revenues.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the session included a review of the final report on the government program, which highlighted progress in implementing 884 objectives set at the government’s formation. The report showed an 88% implementation rate during the government’s term and the complete achievement of 582 objectives. The Cabinet also examined recommendations related to the program’s methodology, prioritization, data accuracy, and executive governance.
The Council addressed the health sector’s issues, focusing on the shortage of medical personnel, specifically doctors. The recommendations from a study by a committee formed under Decree No. 24395 of 2024 received approval. Additionally, the Cabinet approved a contract with a Swiss company for the Advanced Passenger Information System (API), incorporating feedback from the National Center for Digital Transformation.
The Prime Minister’s Office received approval to contract a specialized company to assess the Civil Aviation Authority, contingent on funding availability in the operational budget, as per Federal Financial Management Law No. 6 of 2016.
