Pretoria: The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced on Monday that the African Super Cup match between South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns and Algeria’s USM Alger will be held on November 8 in South Africa. Sundowns, the CAF Champions League winners, will face USM Alger, the CAF Confederation Cup champions, in a single match that pits the two continental competitions’ champions against each other for the African Super Cup title.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the match will be held at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria, where both teams are looking to add another continental title to their trophy cabinets and further solidify their presence on the African stage. Sundowns secured the CAF Champions League title last season for the second time in their history, after defeating Morocco’s FAR Rabat 2-1 on aggregate in the two-legged final.

Meanwhile, USM Alger won the CAF Confederation Cup title after defeating Egypt’s Zamalek 8-7 on penalties, following a two-legged tie, thus securing their place in the CAF Super Cup. Both teams have previous experience in the CAF Super Cup, with Mamelodi Sundowns winning the title in 2017 and USM Alger in 2023. This adds extra significance to the upcoming clash as both seek their second title.

In related developments, CAF has set the dates for the preliminary rounds of the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup. The first leg matches will be played between September 4th and 6th, 2026, with the return legs scheduled for September 11th to 13th. Additionally, CAF confirmed that the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations will be hosted in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda from June 19th to July 17th.

In another update, CAF has selected Egypt to host the 2027 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations, which will serve as the qualifying tournament for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The tournament will be held in 2027, with qualifying rounds scheduled to begin next September.
