Canada: Trump Will Seek Trade Talks Due to Americans’ Suffering

Baghdad: New Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said that President Donald Trump will ultimately respect Canada's sovereignty and be willing to hold comprehensive trade talks because Americans will suffer from Trump's trade war. Carney added, "Talks with Trump will not happen until we receive the respect we deserve as a sovereign nation."

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Trump continued his near-daily attacks on Canada on Friday, repeating that it should be the 51st US state and that the United States is the one that keeps Canada going. "When I say they should be a state, I mean it," the US President said.

Carney met with Canadian provincial leaders at the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa, where he announced aid packages for workers and businesses affected by the trade war. Carney, who was sworn in last Friday, has yet to speak with Trump by phone. Trump mocked Carney's predecessor, Justin Trudeau, calling him "Governor Trudeau," but has not yet mentioned Carney by name.

The new Prime Minister said he wants a comprehensive discussion on trade and security with the Americans, not just a discussion on tariffs.
