Baghdad: Cardinal Louis Sako has stated that there are 136 cardinals globally who are eligible for the position of Pope, and he is included among them. Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani has expressed his unequivocal support for Sako, highlighting him as the sole candidate from the Middle East poised to succeed Pope Francis in the Holy See at the Vatican.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Prime Minister al-Sudani emphasized his backing for Cardinal Sako, acknowledging the significance of having a representative from the Middle East as a potential successor to the papal throne. This endorsement comes amid discussions on the future leadership of the Catholic Church, as Pope Francis continues his tenure.
