Baghdad: The Central Bank of Iraq confirmed today, Friday: “The National Electronic Payment Card Project is a local option, exclusively in Iraqi dinars.”

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from the CBI clarified that the National Electronic Payment Card Project is designed as an additional local option. This card will be used exclusively within Iraq and will operate solely in Iraqi dinars. The initiative aims to provide a domestic alternative without affecting the availability or functionality of existing international cards such as Visa and Mastercard.

The CBI reassured the public that there are no plans to cancel international cards or restrict transactions in dollars outside of Iraq. The introduction of the National Electronic Payment Card Project is intended to enhance local payment solutions while maintaining existing international financial transaction options.
